The Virtual Missionary – the Power of Your Digital Testimony, Greg Trimble (all quotes are his)*

What is a Virtual Missionary?
” A Virtual Missionary is anyone who wants to share the Gospel using the Internet.
” Anyone who understands the Gospel and wants to follow the brethren who invite us to ‘sweep the earth as with a flood’.
” Anyone who wants “to communicate [his or her] deepest thoughts and desires” to children and loved ones.

Why do we want to be Virtual Missionaries?
” We want to leave a written record for our children, grandchildren, extended family, friends and maybe even thousands who are seeking truth.
” Follow the brethren: “Beginning at this place on this day, I exhort you to sweep the earth with messages filled with righteousness and truth – messages that are authentic, edifying, and praiseworthy – and literally to sweep the earth as with a flood.” David A Bednar
” There is a great need, when anyone Googles questions about the Church most of the posts are negative. We members need to share our knowledge and testimonies so seeking people can find the truth.

How do we become Virtual Missionaries?
1. ‘Share’ posts on Facebook – sharing allows yours and other people’s posts to go viral. Liking or Commenting only allows a few people to view a post, sharing opens the door for thousands to see.
2. Set up your own Blog: Elder Ballard said, “Most of you already know that if you have access to the Internet you can start a blog in minutes and begin sharing what you know to be true.”
a. Set up a Blog because “your blog or website is the central cog in your Internet presence, and it’s the only content on the Internet in which you actually own all of [the] data.” Our posts on any of the social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, or YouTube) become the property of that site.
b. Use wordpress.com Greg Trimble recommends this platform as the most reliable and respected. A second choice could be Blogger (www.blogger.com). (See chapter titled: Why You Should Set Up A Blog First)
c. Costs: When you begin you can go for a free site and then as your posts gain popularity you can expand to a paid version of wordpress, $48 to $96 dollars per year. (See chapter titled: Are You Going To Get Rich)
3. Examples of blogs:
a. Greg Trimble’s blog: Gregtrimble.com
b. Larry Saunders’ blogs: Larryis.com and Larryisms.blogspot.com
c. John Galbraith’s blog: Galbraithhere.com
d. Terri Cardon’s blog: Terricardon.com
4. Steps for setting up your blog:
a. Decide on a blog name, look at the examples above.
b. Goto wordpress.com and select ‘see plans’. You can begin with a free plan or either a $48 or $96 personal plan – free is ok to begin with (‘compare plans’ tell you what extras you get with each plan).
c. Click ‘Get Started’ – fill out the email address, username and password
d. You might use the wordpress theme: tortuga
What do Virtual Missionaries write?
” They write ‘messages that are authentic, edifying and praiseworthy’ as Elder Bednar suggested.
” “Write from the heart” then “people will read what you write”, “Find something that you’re passionate about and go to work”. “Power in words comes when you live and breathe the topics you write about.”

How do Virtual Missionaries get Google Search Engines to move their comments to the top?
” They teach their friends to ‘Share’ – the more hits the more recognition
” They help each other by sharing posts of other Virtual Missionaries
” Their Title, Content, Meta Description and URL all must contain ‘Key Words’
” Now turn this page over, select a Title for your 1st post and begin writing
